MCCID College of Technology participated in the 2nd International Deaf Day Celebration of North Luzon Association of the Deaf (NLAD) held at SM City Tarlac last September 15, 2012 with the theme “Sign Bilingualism is a Human Right”.
More than 200 deaf and hearing members of NLAD attended the affair. The groups represented were composed of Ilocos Norte Association of the Deaf, Deaf Association of Pines City, La Trinidad Association of the Deaf, La Union Association of the Deaf and Tarlac Province Association of the Deaf (TPAD). Tarlac City Mayor Ace Manalang, the affair’s special guest speaker was not able to come. His representative read his speech. Ms. Lourdes Marie Reyes, Assistant Mall Manager of SM City Tarlac, also gave her inspirational message thanking the organizers in choosing their mall as the venue.
Philippine Federation of the Deaf President Rey Alfred Lee also graced the affair as well as its former president Marites Racquel Corpuz. The affair started with a parade from Osias College to SM City Tarlac. Fun and games followed in the afternoon.
This year’s celebration was hosted by TPAD led by their President and MCCID Alumnus Wilfredo Corpuz II. MCCID Training Director Jojo Esposa together with La Union Resident Interpreter and Philippine National Association of Sign Language Interpreter (PNASLI) Northern Luzon Representative Ember Palma were the official sign language interpreters. affair was Fun and games were held in the afternoon.
International Deaf Day is celebrated worldwide through the initiatives of the World Federation of the Deaf.
