Here are the contents and scope of the Official Exam Advisory for the August 10, 2025 (Pen and Paper Test) from the Civil Service Commission:

I. Civil Service Examination Coverage for Professional Level

A. Verbal Ability (English)

  1. Vocabulary or Word Meaning - (50 Questions) On this quiz, you will select a word that most likely is the definition of the word in question.
  2. Sententence Completion - (50 Questions) You must complete an unfinished sentence by filling in the specific missing word or phrase.
  3. Sentence Structure and Error Recognition (Combined 3 & 4 Coverage) - (50 Questions) This quiz tests your knowledge of proper grammar and word usage.
  4. Paragraph Organization - (20 Questions) On this quiz, you will arrange the sentences to form a paragraph that are clear, understandable, and unified piece of writing. Only 20 items are given here due to the length of each question.
  5. Reading Comprehension - (20 Questions) Reading comprehension is the ability to understand and make meaning from what you read. You will be given a paragraph for you to analyze. Then you will choose which statement best fits your understanding of the paragraph.

B. Analytical Ability (English)

  1. Word Analogy or Association - (50 Questions) Word associations mean connections between words that are related in some way. They can be related in TOPICS (Ex: rain-umbrella), AREA/SPACE (Ex: bathroom-toilet) or CAUSE (Ex: heat-melt).
  2. Identifying Assumptions and Drawing Conclusions - (20 Questions) Identifying Assumptions means finding ideas or beliefs that are not directly said but are simply accepted. Drawing Conclusions means making a decision or judgment based on the clues or information given.
  3. Symbolic Logic/Abstract Reasoning - Symbolic Logic/Abstract Reasoning is using symbols and patterns to figure out problems by finding logical connections and rules, without focusing on specific details.
