Finally, after more than a year of waiting, the 2017 Apolinario Mabini Awards was held in December 3, 2018 at the historic Club Filipino in San Juan City coinciding with the International Disability Day Celebration.
MCCID College of Technology was the first recipient of the “Accessible Website of the Year Award for Non-government Agency” for “making their website and web content more accessible to people with disabilities by meeting the standards set by Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 (WCAG) set by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) as adopted by the Department of Information and Communications Technology”. The Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center – Region I was the recipient for the Government Agency category.
MCCID President Remberto Esposa together with School Registrar Remedios Esposa received the award in behalf of the institution.
The Apolinario Mabini Awards was launched by the Philippine Foundation for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled, Inc. (PFRD) in 1974 on the occasion of its Silver Anniversary. Since then, it has been a major annual program of the PFRD. Aside from the website accessibility award, recipients of the awards include Presidential A. Mabini Award, Person With Disability (PWD) of the Year, PWD Group of the Year, Local Government Unit of the Year, Rehabilitation Volunteer/Group of the Year (Volunteer/Group Advocate for the Empowerment of PWDs of the Year), Employer of the Year, PWD Friendly Establishment and PWD Media Advocate of the Year. Awarding is held once every two years.
